We all learn through experience, and this past Monday, husband and I learned that when you buy a house in January, you'd better keep and eye on the heating oil level in your furnace.

We awoke to windows frosted on the inside and cold, cold air. We worried that the pipes would freeze and burst (like last time) but God was kind and by the time our house regained its ability to heat itself last night, we'd experienced no other catastrophes.

You have to make the best out of even the coldest of experiences and we made the best out of ours.
Snugly layering on sweatpants, sweatshirts, scarves, and gloves, we built a crackling fire in our little brick fireplace and cuddled under blankets while catching up on the latest episodes of Downton Abbey. (Yes, my husband likes Downton Abbey just as much as I do. Best. Husband. Ever).

Our frigid evening turned out quite splendidly, though, I'll admit, I could have used an extra pair of socks. Perhaps something hand-knit and cozy like these mustard beauties from Homemade Habitat?

  1. Mine loves it, too. He hates Thomas soooo much, haha. It's kind of ridiculous :)

  2. I am wondering about the furnace. Did it malfunction, or did the oil supply run out? If the latter, I am surprised the sellers were so stingy. If the former, how did you fix it?

    1. The oil supply simply ran out; I'm afraid we weren't keeping a proper eye on the gauge. But its all full now; Zack took care of everything. :)
